Bringing Light to Port Harcourt Maximum Prison

In the heart of Port Harcourt, amidst towering walls and barbed wire, lies the Port Harcourt Maximum Prison. Originally designed to accommodate 800 inmates, it now bears the weight of nearly 5000 souls, with 120 among them being women. On Monday, the 2nd of October 2023, amidst the shadows of these walls, a beacon of hope shone brightly as WEBS Ministries Rivers State hosted the national prisons outreach.

The day dawned with a sense of purpose and determination as the team from WEBS Ministries gathered and the spirit of compassion and service burned brightly in their hearts. As the gates creaked open to welcome them, the team stepped into a world marked by confinement but filled with hope for transformation. They were greeted by the eager faces of the female inmates, their eyes reflecting a longing for connection and kindness.

With hearts overflowing with love, the team from WEBS Ministries distributed 120 packs of toiletries to the inmates and wardens, a simple gesture that spoke volumes of care and solidarity. Gratitude filled the air as the gifts were received with heartfelt thanks, bridging the gap between the incarcerated and the outside world.

Minister Omawumi Ehoro, the Rivers State Coordinator, stepped forward to share words of encouragement, drawing inspiration from Philippians 1:12-19. As her voice echoed through the corridors of the prison, hearts were stirred, and souls were touched by the message of hope and redemption. An altar call was made, inviting those present to reconcile their hearts to Christ, and amidst the confines of the prison walls, seven souls found solace in the embrace of divine love. Tracts and Bibles were shared, offering a lifeline of faith to those navigating the depths of despair.

Amidst the sharing of the Word, the Holy Spirit descended, filling the atmosphere with songs of praise and joyous dancing. In that sacred moment, barriers dissolved, and spirits soared, transcending the confines of captivity.

As the outreach drew to a close, the Prison Fellowship team humbly appealed to WEBS Ministries for support in a matter of urgent need. Two pregnant women, incarcerated within the prison walls, were nearing the moment of childbirth, lacking essential supplies and support. With no family members to turn to, their plight tugged at the heartstrings of all present. In response to this urgent call, Webs Ministries and its partners pledged to provide the necessary items for the impending births. Baby clothes, diapers, wipes, and essential toiletries would ensure the comfort and well-being of both mothers and infants during this critical time.
