WEBS Empowers Widows Across Nigeria
With Nigeria's dwindling economy, a more significant salient portion of the population, particularly the widows, face financial hardship. To help curb the menace of the problem, the WEBS ministry through support in cash and kind from organizations, friends, and family, organized a skill acquisition and empowerment programme to assist widows to be self-reliant. The skills acquisition training and empowerment programme has been ongoing since July 2021 in Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Warri.
In Abuja, Mrs. Grace Usman, a 30 years old Widow for 3 years and a mother of 3 recently completed her training in Beads/wireworks Tools. After the training, Mrs. Usman was empowered with business start-up tools worth N40, 000 in line with training acquired (beading and wireworks tools). It covered items like a round nose plier, 2 flat nose pliers, wire cutter, fishing lines, elastics, jewelry boxes, artistic wire professional deluxe coiling gizmo, artistic mandrel set, memory wires, gum, 4 jewelry neck display, wire knitter, wire shaper, copper wires, beads accessories, etc. The training lasted from 11th August - 8th October 2021 and was facilitated by Ms. Linda Obi.
“I want to thank you, people, for helping me and remembering me. I am very happy for the many things given to me because of my children, this beads/wireworks skills acquisition will help me look after my children.”
—Mrs. Grace Usman
It is our belief that with this intervention, Mrs. Grace would be able to start up her own business, be self-sufficient to take care of her 3 children and be able to contribute positively to her local communities and the society at large.
