WEBS Ministries commemorates International Widows Day 2022 at Hulumi Village FCT

In commemoration of the International Widows Day 2022, Heart to Heart with Widows alongside WEBS ministry through the help of generous donors carried out a communal widows visitation to the Hulumi Village beside Idu railway station, FCT. On 25th June 2022, 44 Widows gathered at the ECWA Church, Hulumi Village FCT where the event was held.

The program was divided into several sections; In an introduction, where the convener Mrs. Gladys speaking said the chief palace was originally arranged for the outreach. Still, she declined to tell them that" the church is where the widow’s feet belong because He God is the husband to the widows".

There was an interactive section with the widows, A section where some widows talked about the challenge(s) they face as widows.

a) A widow Gloria Sabon recounted "some of the challenges they face as widows- children school fees, feeding, late husbands relatives disturbing them and withholding their husband's properties from their reach

b) Another widow spoke on the lack of funding for their business and the slow movement of sales within their area.

In responding to them an elderly widow from the Heart to Heart with Widows organization shared her personal experience as a way of encouraging the widows, she had been widowed for over 30 years. Evangelist Abigail Edu talked about mothers as role models for their children.

 
 

WEBS representative Ogechi (FCT State coordinator) gave the 1st talk on widows’ economic sustainability and how they can empower themselves through petty trading and skills acquisition.

The 2nd talk was on Security Tips given by Pastor Noah Abah a policeman and also a widower, with a passion for widows.

The 3rd talk was on “Embrace Yourself”. Mrs. Gladys also spoke about her own experience as a widow and gave some insights on managing to be a widow and overcoming challenges. She also spoke about how the experience made her become an author of the book “Overcoming the challenges of widowhood”

After the talks, Some items were given to the widows, targeting the most elderly ones.

- Clothes, shoes, and Food stuff were shared with all.

- Cash of 5,000 each were given to 10 Elderly widows

- Cash of 10,000 each was given to 3 younger widows to start a petty trade.

They (widows) expressed their gratitude for the gifts and promised to hold on to God and adhere to the instructions and teachings they have learned.
